Homework
Policy
‘A
definition of homework:" Any work
or activities which pupils are asked to do outside
lesson time, either on their own or with parents or
carers.”
The
purpose of homework is to support and extend our
children's learning. We aim to develop an equal
partnership between school and parents where we can work
in partnership for the good of each child.
Through this policy we aim to:
1
Ensure consistency and approach throughout the school
2
Ensure progression towards independence and
individuality
3
Ensure that the needs of the individual pupil are taken
into account, including those with special
educational needs
4
Ensure that parents/guardians have a clear understanding
about expectations from themselves and the pupil
5
Improve the quality of learning experience offered to
pupils
6
Provide opportunities for parents/carers and school to
work in partnership
1
Provide a suitable peaceful environment to allow work
set to be completed
2
Make it clear to pupils that they value homework, and
support the school in explaining how it can help
their learning
3
Oversee / check work that has been set with the child
and sign their Home/ School Homework Diary
(KS2)
We ask
teachers to:
1 Plan and co-ordinate homework so that the demands are
balanced and
manageable

In Key Stage 1
the main focus will be daily reading, but
will also include learning spellings, practicing correct
punctuation and number games and tasks. Homework will
focus mainly on Literacy and Numeracy.
In Key Stage
2 Science will be added to the above
programme as the children move up the school. The
children will also be asked to practice research skills
in all curriculum areas. This may involve the use of
I.C.T. if available at home, or research at the local
Library. In an effort to continually encourage the
children to reach their full potential the staff may
provide additional homework if deemed necessary.
Kingsthorpe
Library now provides an opportunity for children to
complete homework. There are facilities for the children
to develop their research skills there too.
