Policy Reviewed: October 2011

Mrs. Anne Walker: Headteacher , Registered Person for Little Lambs’ Nursery, and responsible for Child Protection

Mrs. Thomasina Casey: Deputy Head, EYFS Co-ordinator, joint responsibility for Child Protection

Mrs. Jackie Robinson:Deputy Head and KS2 Co-ordinator

Mrs. Jenny Williams: KS1 Co-ordinator

  • We want our children to feel special and to be aware of their unique relationship with God.

  • We will encourage them to be tolerant, self-motivated, thoughtful hard working, caring, honest, responsible and courteous.

  • Discipline is firm but fair. We expect a high standard of behaviour, which is rewarded by way of verbal praise, stickers and certificates.
  • We believe that by saying ‘Sorry’ all children should be given another chance.
  • All teachers and children begin each school year by putting together a list of Class Rules. These are displayed in individual classrooms.
  • In Key Stage 1 there is a notice displaying Playground Rules which were suggested and agreed by the children, as well as our Mission Statement are displayed on the walls.
  • Our School Council have created a ‘Diamond Nine’ which includes rules for the KS2 playground. Dinner Supervisors use copies of the Diamond Nine to monitor children’s behaviour at lunchtimes.

If children behave in an unacceptable manner the following actions will be taken:

1          Discussion will take place between the child / children and their class teacher to ascertain how /why the problem arose. (Class teacher will record incident in class ‘Behaviour Management’ book) The class teacher will if deemed necessary, share this information with the parents / carers.

The following actions may be taken:

·         withdrawal of morning, lunchtime play, afternoon play

·         write a letter of apology to the person / persons concerned

·         make amends for their misdemeanour through good works

If a child’s behaviour is repeatedly disruptive in class, the staff will use the  agreed system of ‘One, two, three Magic’ when a cushion is used for the child to sit on to make the child aware that their behaviour is unacceptable.

This may result in the child being withdrawn from class and sent to the Key Stage Co-ordinator, Deputy Heads or Headteacher. At this stage if deemed necessary, parents / carers may be contacted if deemed necessary.

2           If the class teacher feels that the Key Stage Co-ordinators /Deputy Head / Headteacher needs to be involved, the class teacher will complete a Headteacher Referral Form stating exactly what has happened. If necessary the Deputy Head / Headteacher will contact parents /carer.

3          Persistent bad behaviour, or behaviour which includes endangering themselves or others will result in parents being invited into school to discuss further action which may involve;

(a)         Withdrawal from school during lunchtimes for a period of one week i.e. parent / carer collects child at 12.00 / 12.15 p.m. and returns child to school at 1.15 p.m. The child is then given a ‘fresh start’ when he / she returns to school for the lunchtime period.

(b)        Suspension from school will be enforced in extreme cases. This will be enforced following Diocesan and NCC guidance.

4          In some cases it may be necessary to seek the support and advice of the Special Needs Co-ordinator / Education Psychologist / Education Welfare Officer or Bacin Team. Parents will be informed if such action is necessary.

5           If parents have any concerns regarding their child’s / other children’s behaviour they should contact:

·         Mrs. Sarah Butler

(Mrs. Walker’s Personal Assistant)

 on

01604  714399

It will then be possible to arrange a mutually convenient time to discuss their concerns with the class teacher. Then, if necessary ,the EYFS, Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2 Co-ordinator, Deputy Heads and finally the Headteacher.

If any child or parent has any concerns or personal worries, the Headteacher will always be pleased to meet with them.

N. B.

6             Under no circumstances must parents attempt to discipline any child other than their own, on school premises.
